The last day of Shakin Moo's leaflet production

At the start of the day we had a group meeting. In this meeting we discussed the plan of the day. I suggested that I would finish the front of the leaflet which we have been doing before. James said that he would like to write up our presentation which we will present next time when we meet Chris Lane. Also Michael said he wants to complete the back of the leaflet. We decided who does what and after the meeting we got on.

The first thing that I did when I started on the front of the leaflet was the colouring of the letters. The letters were pink, but as in James's idea the letters are pink and yellow inside I had to colour them. It took a long time because I had to click on a lot of letters by using the bucket tool. Here is the after picture after the letter colouring:

I really liked it but there was something missing. I asked my group members about their opinions and they also suggested that there is something missing. We asked Mr Hind for his opinion and he took our leaflet for a public opinion. He came back and said that the text on it is a bit boring and doesn't make the reader to read on and visit Shakin Moo's. Now we had to do some thinking to improve our leaflet. I suggested that the text should be in an angle; this would make it a lot better. James suggested that the Shakin Moo's logo should be bigger and also he suggested putting the word 'fresh' in. When we did that I came up with an idea to the make word 'fresh' funkier by having it wavy type. Here is the leaflet after:

I also added the yellow borders to make it more attractive and to connect with the pink and yellow font. When Michael was making the back of the leaflet he firstly copied the same background as the front of the leaflet which I helped him with. Also he got the border of the Shakin Moo's logo and used it for the map.
Here is a picture when he had added the map and the logo of free internet. He noticed this logo on the old Shakin Moo's logo which Chris's designer made.

I helped Michael with the text because the font type was installed on my computer, so we swapped the computers. I also found the arrow picture in Photoshop which we couldn't find at first.

Now me and Michael have finished our work so we helped James. I was very proud of our work this day and I think we have made a very professional leaflet. We also printed the final leaflet out so we can show it to Chris Lane.

9th day of Campaign Unit

Today we wanted to add the Shakin Moo's font to our final leaflet and fix the edges to improve it. Unfortunately we didn't add the Shakin Moo's font because we didn't have access to the control panel. To access the control panel we needed the IT person, but they never came to help. To not waste time we fixed the edges on the leaflet. It took a long while because you have to be very careful to not make any big mistakes. It is very good that you can undo everything, in case you make any mistakes. Here is an example of an edited part of our leaflet (before and after):

You can see that number 1 has white edges which don't look very good. Number 2 is fixed version which looks better. We took the editing in turns so that everyone gets a go. We used the smudge tool, and we changed the size of it because the corners were very hard to smudge with a big smudge circle. We also edited the big cup because it had very visible cloud lines. In this case we used the blur tool which I suggested. Here is a before and after picture:
On the picture 1, you can see dark lines which are very visible. After the editing on the picture 2 you can see that it improved a lot. I think it works better than before and is more effective. Our leaflet is currently looking like this:
I also changed the size of the small Mr Moo cup, so that there is more text space when we add the text. Fortunately the IT person came and added the Shakin Moo's font. We added the font and here it is:
It looks very good with the font now. Next lesson we will add a yellow colour to the font so it stands out more. The 'Try it now' text doesn't stand out, so that why we will add some more colour to it. I think that it looks better now and I really like it. It just needs some adjustments and it will probably be finished in the next lesson. I think that we have done a lot of work this lesson and I think we have worked very well.

Nice work Matiss, try to include more detailed next steps as you plan next week`s work.

8th day of Campaign Unit

Today started when we chose the pictures which we are going to use for our final design and also I sorted out my Campaign Unit folder. It was hard to decide what pictures to use because we had a lot of pictures taken the lesson's before. Here are the pictures which will be included in our final leaflet:

We will use this cup as the main cup in the leaflet, it is good because the logo is facing the front.
This is our background, it is blurred so that the leaflet is focussed on the cup and the text.
We are going to use the lid of this picture.
We will use this Mr Moo picture as the small cup near the corner which will have text near it.
This is the Shakin Moo's logo which we will use for our final leaflet. We started our final leaflet on Adobe PhotoShop. The first thing that we needed to do was to choose the right size for our leaflet. It should be A5 but unfortunately there wasn't an option. James suggested that I should select A4 format and then half the size. It worked. The second thing that we needed to choose was the background. Here are the two background pictures which we had to choose from.
I didn't like this background picture because there is too much detail and things going on there. If we would choose to use this picture than it would distract the audience eye from the main objects.
I personally like this background picture more than the other because it's blurred so that the main objects would be focussed. The only member of our group that liked the first background picture was Michael. Because he liked the first picture more, we asked other members of our class for their opinion. Most of the people like the second background picture. Here is a picture of how our leaflet was looking so far:
I added the cup and the lid by using the crop tool. It was very difficult to keep the edges straight and consistent, and it took a while until the lid and the cup where together. Fortunately I succeeded and we also added the Shakin Moo's logo in the bottom corner of the leaflet. Now it was looking like this:
I was amazed that the corners were smooth and you couldn't see that the picture have been cropped out. To make it even more smoother I blurred the corners when in zoom so you don't see any crop marks. We also added the small cup and added the steam. To make the steam was one of the most hardest things. I used a YouTube tutorial to help me, here is the link :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lVk7X_byMxk
It really helped me because there is no other way to make steam. I tried to search for steam in Google but I failed. I made 3 layers of the steam so that the steam looks more real like. Now it looked like this:
I really like it and I think it's effective. It took as ages to get to this stage and I think we have done very well. We wanted to add the Shakin Moo's text which Chris Lane sent us, but we could not install it because the administrator has banned access to the control panel. We didn't have much time so we decided to do it next lesson. All we need to do now is to add the text and check for any mistakes. I am very proud of my groups work today.

Hi Matiss

Nice blogging - you are showing your progress and thinking very clearly. Try setting some goals and plans for the next session.

Seventh Lesson

Our day started when we went to the Shakin' Moo's and took pictures which we needed for our final 'Hot Shake' poster. I brought my own camera and we got given another one by the teacher. It was difficult to capture the main objects because there was a lot of things in the background. We took about 30 pictures and when we got back we chose the 9 best ones and edited them on Adobe Photoshop. I suggested that we each edit 3 of the 9 pictures to make the pictures more proffesional, such as if it's too dark make it lighter. Here is the first picture which I edited before:

Here is the first picture which I edited after:
I made the picture better and more professional by making the picture lighter and I got rid of the messy background. I think that it looks better when I edited it.
Here is the second picture which I edited before:
Here is the second picture which I edited after:
I changed the light and I got rid of the distracting background. It was very difficult to get rid of the fingers because you had to use the stamp clone. After some practice which I did before I got used of doing it and now I know how to do it properly. Here is the third picture which I edited before:
Here is the third picture which I edited after:
It was easier to edit this picture because I edited a picture like this before. This edited picture is going to be very usefel for our final design because we might use it as the cup on the final 'Hot Shakes' leaflet. Here are the ones that James did:
I think that he done a good job and I really like them. When we took the pictures we made a mistake. As you can see on these pictures the Shakin Moos logo is not facing the front. I was very dissapointed when I saw this, but we still have a lot of other good cup pictures.

Overall I think that I did very good piece of editing which we are going to use. Next lesson we are going to start our final 'Hot Shakes'.

First day of making the leaflet on Adobe Photoshop

Today we started to make our final design leaflet on Adobe Photoshop. At the start we thought that it is going to be a bit easy but unfortunately it wasn't. We tried to crop this image for our leaflet, but because we are not used to using Adobe Photoshop we failed. Here is the image that we tried to crop.

We wanted to crop out the cup and then to open the lid using Adobe Photoshop but after a long time of trying we didnt succeed. Mr Hind wasn't here which meant we couldn't ask for help. To not waste time we created a shot list of photos to take in the field at Shakin Moo's. Here it is:

I practised how to combine 2 images seamlessly in Adobe Photoshop. I found a YouTube tutorial that helped me. Here is the link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=StBOo5RsHds&feature=related
I succeeded and now I know how to do it. Here is the picture which I made:
It looks pretty simple but actually it was hard. I had to firstly crop and then smudge the worm image to make it a like. I am going to use these skills which I learned in the next week to help the group.

The second day of planning

Today I improved my final idea by adding some more information on it. When people pick up leaflets they usually want to know where the shop is and if they have any special offers. So I added the address of the Shakin Moo's and special offer to attract people's attention. Here is a picture of it before:

Here it is after:

We each have now done a final idea, here is James's final idea:

I think that his idea is very good because it attracts attention and makes you want to buy the hot shake. Here is Michael's final idea:

I think the idea is good but it could be better. After that we made a questionnaire, unfortunately we failed on our first attempt because we released that it was hard to fill out and was very basic. We redid it by making the questionnaire tally type. After that we asked 11 people to fill it in. Here it is:

By looking at the questionnaire I realised that everybody likes the James's idea more than mine or Michael's. This means that in the next lessons we are going to start to do his idea on the computer, it is going to be hard to replicate the idea because the idea is drawn by hand.

First day of planning, Shakin Moo's Hot Milkshake

At the start of the day we started to draw our ideas. I suggested that we each get a piece of A3 paper and do 3-4 ideas individually. I used my idea which I came up in the team meeting 1. Here is my idea:

I think that it is a very good idea, because when you see it you want to buy a hot shake. I also did 2 more and here is my second idea:

In my opinion it's a bit blank and it's not really interesting which means it won't grab people's attention. To draw this idea I used a printout of a cow because it is very hard to draw it without tracing it.

This is my last idea which I draw:

I think the idea in general is quite interesting but still it's not so great. I asked for a teachers and team member's opinions and only one person didin't like the 1st idea more than the 3rd. The rest of the people said that they really like the 1st idea because it is neat and interesting to look at. I made a bigger copy of the 1st idea on a A4 paper and coloured it in so that you can see how it would look like as a leaflet.

Each of our group members has a final own idea which means we can now do a survey by asking other people of their opinion which is called a market research. After I draw the ideas I did an individual research about the background research of milkshakes. It was very hard to find suitable information at the start, but fortunately I found one really good PDF file which included pie charts and graphs which I used in my research.
I now have a folder so that I can put all of my work in it.
I think I worked very well because I came up with 3 good ideas and produced milkshake background research. I am excited to know people's opinions next lesson, when we are going to do a survey of our leaflet ideas.

The third day of the Caimpaign Unit

Today was the day when we received our brief from Chris Lane, but firstly we discussed what to ask and listen for when we go there. The main things that we listened and asked for were the product, customers, location, competition and current promotions. I got into a group of three me, James and Michael. After the break we went to the Shakin' Moo's outside the Grafton Centre to meet Chris.

Chris gave us a lot of information about his business and the brief which we wrote up after the meeting. The brief of what we will have to do is to choose to promote 'Hot Shakes' or 'Chocolate Fudge Brownie Milkshake'. We can promote them by making leaflets, posters or fliers. I enjoyed the meeting because we talked a lot about business and promotion. After the brief we took some photos around the shop, inside and outside. We found out that Shakin Moo's allready has some promotions such as Mrs Shakin Moo. It is a costume in which a person dresses and promotes Shakin Moo's in front of The Primark (shop). I think it is a very clever promotion because it attracts attention from a distance because it has very bright colours.

Shakin Moo's also sells T-shirts which then are worn and promote Shakin Moo's.

Shakin Moo's is supposed to be a place where young people can hang out so that why Chris put stereo system, massage chair and cool furniture in the shop.

The Shakin Moo's shop is not in a really good position comparing the other shops in and out The Grafton centre. It is blocked by two shops which are called 'Hughes' and 'Scope'.
After we took some photos we went back to the school and wrote up a brief which Chris told us. We also got into our groups and had our first team meeting in which we decided on which promotion to do. We chose to do the hot shakes. Each one of our group members came up with an idea of a poster which we discussed afterwards. Next lesson I will try to communicate even more with my group and I will come up with more interesting ideas for our first draft hot shake poster.

Hi Matiss

Some really strong work here. Good visuals with thorough commentary. Try to avoid listing what we do.

Second day of Campaign Unit

The day started of when Mr Hind told us what we will do. We researched about different kinds of campaigns such as campaigns to raise awareness, state a point of view and advertise a product or service. One kind of campaign to raise awareness I found was called 'Legamviente' which is a campaign against global warming. The campaign that I chose which state a point of view is Organization for America which is Barack Obama's campaign. The campaign that I chose which advertise a product is called Coca Cola which has a Father Christmas in it.

After we researched campaign information and ads Mr Hind gave us a camera and we in a group of three went to take some pictures with the main object as a pipe, which in my point of view is very boring. We had to take some pictures to make the pipe object picture interesting. We shared the camera between each other so that we each get a go. We only had 30 minutes to take 20 pictures. The first picture that we took was James's idea.
I took this picture and I think that this picture is way more interesting than just the pipe on its own. Mr Hind commented afterwards and he said that it is interesting to watch, so you don't get bored of it so quickly. It would be even better if there were no cars, but we couldn't do anything about it. The second picture that we took was my idea but Michael shot it.
I like this picture but, not as the one before because it is not so interesting. The background lockers distract you from the main object and the object is too dark which means this picture is not really professional. The third picture that I took was my idea.
The picture was not suppose to be like this but because it was really dark the picture came out not focused. Fortunately, the picture is very interesting because you don’t really understand what it is and it is symmetric. The light really stands out which I really enjoy about this picture and in my opinion I think that this was the best picture that we took. Our group liked it too. Here are two more.

We shoot about 20 pictures but I chose the best ones. After we shoot the pictures we went back to class and I put the pictures onto the computer, which I had experience in doing before. We discussed all of the pictures and then we swapped our object and went to shoot some more pictures for 15 minutes. Here are the best ones.
This picture is my favourite of the second object because this picture is very symmetric and is interesting to watch. After the shooting we came back and did a little bit of Adobe Photoshop editing, in which we didn't have a lot of time. The day went very fast. Next week I will try to do tasks faster, because we didn't have a lot of time to edit the pictures on the Adobe Photoshop. I enjoyed this day.
